Dentures and Partials
Anchor Point, serving Homer and Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
A complete denture is an entire set of teeth, upper and lower, which replaces the missing teeth. The teeth, made of a special acrylic, come in a wide array of shapes, sizes, and shades of white. They are attached to a customized acrylic base, designed to fit your gum contours comfortably.
Dr. Bartley offers complete dentures and typically will need five appointments to complete the procedure. It starts with a complete dental examination of your teeth, gums, and bite, and we include a cancer screening as well. The final appointment is to test and adjust your final denture. We also like to have you come for one or two follow-up checks, to make sure there are no sore places or irritation.
A partial denture contains only the substitute teeth designed to fit next to your existing teeth. The same acrylic is used, and the procedure is similar, although Dr. Bartley may want to slightly modify the enamel of the adjoining teeth for a better fit. There is a metal framework which we design to fit your gums with comfort, and it has clasps that fit on to the neighboring teeth.
Both complete and partial dentures are removable. They should be removed when you sleep and stored in water so they retain their shape and do not dry out. They will last a long time with good daily dental hygiene, both for the dentures and for any natural teeth you have.
LVI Training
Dr. Bartley has excellent knowledge and skill for fitting you with dentures, as he is a graduate of the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. He has that post-graduate training which makes him a highly-qualified cosmetic and neuromuscular dentist.
This gives him a wider and far more informed perspective than basic undergraduate dental training gives. He can assess more than just your teeth and gums – his approach includes consideration of your jaw joints and their related muscles, nerves, and blood vessels, as well as your facial shape, jawline profile, and posture.
Another way to replace missing teeth is through the use of dental implants. Please see our Dental Implants page for more details.
