Hard Tissue Laser
Anchor Point, serving Homer and Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
Lasers have been used in dentistry for years, but only recently have dentists used lasers on teeth. Today’s amazing dental advancements allow the hard tissue laser, extremely useful for:
- Removing old fillings
- Repairing cavities
- Preparing teeth for bonding
- Removing small amounts of tooth structure
- Quickly restoring teeth with durable natural restorations
Cavity Treatments: No Drill, No Pain
In times past, removing a cavity was no picnic. The tooth was anesthetized, then the dreaded dental drill went to work cutting in to the tooth to remove the cavity. It was enough to keep most people from getting the dental care they needed. Now, the hard tissue laser eliminates the need for local anesthesia, and patients are returning to the dental office in droves to get their cavities taken care of quickly, easily and, best of all, painlessly.
How Does the Hard Tissue Laser Work?
The Hard Tissue Laser uses laser energy in small bursts, combined with water to create tiny, micro-explosions that blast away tooth decay. This is a painless procedure. While the Hard Tissue Laser isn’t as fast as the old-fashioned drill, it’s a much-preferred method since no injections are needed to numb the area. And who likes the noise of the drill? The Hard Tissue Laser eliminates that problem as well.
Is the Hard Tissue Laser Suitable for All Uses?
Unfortunately no. The Hard Tissue Laser works best when cavities are small to medium and not close to the center of the tooth where the nerve is. The Hard Tissue Laser can’t remove old fillings, and is not suitable for preparing the tooth for a crown, inlay or onlay. The rough surface created by the Hard Tissue Laser is excellent, however, for bonding composite resin fillings and removing small decay quickly and painlessly without a needle. The Hard Tissue Laser is great for children.
